Frustration! Tales of Vesperia

Dear Gattuso,

I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you.

No love,
Me

Dear Tales of Vesperia,

Why are my controls over my party members so ineffective and oppressively limited? I notice nothing changes in the battle when I use them, so I was wondering if maybe they're just a placebo effect. If so, couldn't you make them a little more placebo-y?

No love,
Me

Dear Special Mission,

I am this close to telling you to fuck off.

No love,
Me

I don't know about Gattuso (never heard of it) XD; Buuuut.. WTF Vesperia? I know that the characters in Tales of games have never had the best AI but that's retarded. I guess they wanted to emphasize the whole "get your friends to play the other characters" bit.

He's a boss in Vesperia. And honestly it's kind of infuriating. How could you guys fail this hard? Normally there's a strategy system that lets you tell the others what basic tactics to use, but in this game they're ignoring it. :\ "Defend!" That means avoid the enemy and don't die. It does not mean stand perfectly still and die, and it definitely doesn't mean run up and attack the enemy.

Yeah, he's a big bitch. ~_~;

Hmm, try changing their strategies around some? =| IDK, they work well for me.

Haha. x_X;; Just think of the special missions you have to look forward to. Uh, just change targets really fast when he's near one of the stupid plants and Azure Strike it? =| I don't really remember how I did it, but I know I had to reset it a few times.

I have tried changing their strategies! There's only like four of them and I apparently can't give individual strategies to characters? but it doesn't work.

Defend, right? That's the one that says "do not attack"? So why do they keep running up and attacking Gattuso when I'm trying to be distracting? THIS NO WORKY. And even when they're not running up and attacking him, they're just standing in one place getting killed by him. What happened to the idea of avoidance?

That's what I'm trying to do, but Gattuso really loves everyone in my damn party except for Yuri, until of course everyone in my party is dead because they do the same stupid things regardless of what strategy they are using, which makes it hard for me to get him anywhere near a stupid plant. As long as I don't have to do this battle again I'll be fucking fine.

I'm seriously going right now to remind myself of the reward for special missions to decide if it's worth it. Because I want stranglings.

*scratches head* No, you can edit them. o.o Just hit X on whatever strategy you want to edit. Honestly, I don't know how to change in between them using the pad like they illustrate because that's your overlimit pad. ~_~; So I just go in and change the default manually. But I usually have another set up to defend, because, uh, their defend strategy kinda sucks. The grade farming one is a good defense one:

Help Allies
Avoid Risk
Do Not Use
Defend
Keep Distance
Do Not Use
Do Not Use
Do Not Use

For all the options. That'll just leave the player character for doing anything. If you tell your healers to heal they'll still attack, so uh, yeah. D: Have you tried putting him on Easy? The only thing you really lose on easy is Grade. You can still get the missions.

I've noticed that the monsters in general will always target the player character. ~_~

I did not know you could edit strategies! TOTALLY fixed the Defend strategy, hopefully this will be less hard now. :\ Gattuso still refuses to attack Yuri and I am now infuriated because I succeeded in getting Gattuso dizzy and knocked down by the plants and none of my guys got dizzy or knocked down but still I didn't get the "Great!" thing for some reason, so I feel like I'm missing something. BUT AT LEAST MY DEFEND STRATEGY SUCKS LESS

I also didn't even think about putting it on Easy, thanks. XD

NP~ Glad you've at least got that working. Yeah, it took me a couple of times to get ugly dog down even with being overleveled (because I wander around WAY too much), him on Easy and not letting the others do a damned thing because they kept killing him otherwise. >.>;; It's just... annoying.

Hah, finally. XD Thanks so much for your advice. ♥

Yay! \o/ You are most welcome~

[identity profile] meimi.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Though actually you might want to change the Item option to Watch HP on some of them so you don't die quite so fast. I usually had the Player command 1 strategy set up for the grade farming stuff and just switched it out with moderate if the situation calls for them NOT DOING ANYTHING. Totally worked for artes farming, FS farming, along with grade farming and thieving.

Pft, just be glad that you have Vesperia already. We have to wait until first quarter next year for a release here. At this rate we'll have Resident Evil 5 before then. And don't even get me started on Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, which hasn't even been confirmed here yet :/

But yeah, I feel your pain. Maybe try shaking up your party members' strategies a little bit? IDK.

:\ Booooo. Poor Australia. On a localization note, I keep seeing that we've finally admitted that Canada shares our region -- the guides and boxes for both Vesperia and Silent Hill 5 are in English and French. That's a small victory? For, uh, our region.

I was confused because the strategy system is not like in other games. There's like, four default strategies, and then the thing they don't tell you is that you can edit the particulars of the strategy on a per person basis if you press a certain button on the strategy menu. skfaljf this made it seem like a pretty shitty battle system, especially since the default "Defend" strategy still has my party members running up to enemies and hitting them instead of, you know, avoiding them. XD
