Especial inspiration for this one, since I wrote an Ishida/Rukia called Diamond Girl where he made a gown for her!

*

"I never get a chance to wear things like this," Rukia said, turning back and forth to let the skirt swirl around her ankles. "You and Ishida are really gifted, Inoue!"

Orihime shook her head, making demurring noises through a mouthful of pins. She was still making tiny adjustments to the gown while Rukia was admiring it, so every now and then a pin would be relocated to some fold to be tailored in the future.

"Get those out of your mouth and then say what you want to say," Rukia told her helpfully.

In fact. Rukia reached out to pick up a yielding purple pincushion from the dresser and plucked a needle from between Orihime's lips, to her surprise. But she quickly seemed to recognize that this was a brilliant idea and promptly relocated the rest of them as well.

Then, breathlessly, Orihime announced, "It was mostly Ishida-kun's design! I did my fair share of the sewing but he was the one who really planned out the dress. Ah! Although I planned all the detailing myself."

She ran a wistful finger over the curved dip of the neckline, tracing the neat decorative line there. Rukia found her lips turning up at the edges, as if the path of Orihime's fingers sculpted an echoing smile on her face. "The detailing is beautiful. I'm in love with the beadwork you're looking at now."

"Ah, in love?" Orihime echoed, taken aback and wearing a silly grin. "That's probably uncomfortable! You and the dress could run away together, I mean, it's yours now, so you can if you want to. But I think it'd be more satisfying to fall in love with a boy."

Rukia couldn't help chuckling, closing her eyes. "Boys aren't the only option," she pointed out.

"Oh." Orihime blinked and laughed. "But if you fall in love with a girl, she'd probably want a dress too."

The shorter girl opened her eyes again and pictured Orihime in a gown similar to hers. She smiled, slight and warm. "What if I could get diamonds for her neckline?" Diamonds would suit her -- they would sparkle vivaciously, catch at the attention and admiration of all those around her.

Orihime's eyes widened. She hadn't figured it out yet. "Oooh, I'm sure she'd love that! Diamonds are a girl's best friend."

"Not best friend," Rukia corrected, and hugged her.

Code Geass is dubbed! You should rent some of it. It's funtiems. Here, have some Yuuko on C.C..

*

"You're not seriously going to grant that girl's wish, are you?" Watanuki asked, alarmed.

Yuuko drifted through the aisles behind her shop, trailing silk cloth and sinuous smoke. The boy's footsteps behind her were echoing, loud, graceles. "I'm not in the business of denying people their wishes," she pointed out with some amusement, pulling a box halfway off the shelf, bracing it on her hip and sifting through it with lazy fingers.

"But-- But her wish is to die."

"She's been alive for six hundred years. Don't you think after living that long, if she wants to die, she's earned that right?" No, not in here, either.

"Do you want to die?"

Yuuko shoved the box back onto the shelf and turned around, hands on her hips, to stare flatly at him. "How rude. Do I look six hundred years old to you?" She tossed her hair.

"Older than she looks!"

The ungrateful brat. She'd have to punish him for this later. She headed deeper into the stacks and he clattered after her again. She said airily, "You'll learn not to judge people by appearances someday. It may take me six hundred years to teach you, at this rate."

"You are the one who made it about appearances in the first place!!"

Ignoring his entirely accurate point, Yuuko kept walking. "I'll grant her wish to die if that's really what she wants," she said. "But it isn't."

A girl whose sole desire had been to be loved, tricked into immortality by a cruel confidante and failing time after time in the centuries of her unwilling life to find that deep connection. And even now, she saw still craving the acceptance she'd never found.

Yuuko found what she'd been looking for and smiled lazily to herself, turning it over: a child's picture-viewer. Humming, she pulled out the slide and tapped it with the base of her cigarette holder, like a wand; the tiny images on the film shiver and twist. When she placed it back in the picture-viewer she skimmed through the pictures; one was clear, and the rest were blank -- hidden until she had met the task in the first picture. A series of items, places, people, leading into one another, and finally, the portrait of Empress Marianne vi Britannia.

Hitsuzen, C.C., she thought. There was so much that girl, the one they naively called a witch, had yet to learn about the way of the universe.

This woman will lead you to the one who will be your end -- or the one who will show you love.

And then it's your choice.

Orihime &/or Rukia, Ichigo

Prompt: balloons

Gah this one was hard. I hope I'm not repeating myself. ♥

*

"There aren't enough candles," she said, concerned.

"Even if there were enough candles, they wouldn't all fit on the cake," Ichigo muttered, mostly to himself because he was sure she wasn't listening. "She's like a hundred and fifty years old. Now get away from that thing."

Edible things and Orihime were a calamitous combination at the best of times. She'd only been allowed near the cake because it was complete (Yuzu-chan had baked it) with the promise that she would do absolutely nothing more threatening than prepare it for the upcoming party.

"I guess just three will have to do," Orihime mused to herself. "No, maybe five."

Like it would matter to Rukia if there were one hundred and fifty or just one candle. Ichigo shook his head, not unfondly, and filled a bowl with American-style pretzel snacks for the guests. Just a handful of people -- shinigami and human friends mingling ever so discreetly in Orihime's small apartment.

"You've done so much work," Orihime said, excitedly, looking around at the decorated room.

Ichigo shrugged one shoulder. "It was easy stuff. I got a lot of it done while you were out buying plates and cups."

"You were so smart to come with the decorations already! But... Where's the balloons?" Orihime asked, tilting her head and surveying the decorations with wide eyes. There was a loose streamer in her hair, the rumpled blue paper standing out in the long orange strands.

Ichigo reached out and plucked it loose, leaving her wide-eyed and flushed, probably embarrassed. "I didn't get any."

Her eyes went even wider. "It's not a birthday party without balloons," she protested.

For a brief moment, Ichigo was stumped for a response to that. Yuzu and Karin didn't even demand balloons at their birthday partie anymore. "...She's not a little kid, Inoue. And we're not even outside."

"I'll go get them myself," she decided, apparently not listening to him again. "Maybe ones that are in cute shapes, like hearts and stars."

Ichigo scowled. "Those are like three times more expensive than the normal kind. Just get those!"

But there was something about the way her expression turned crestfallen... She was saying, "Yes, of course -- you're right. I'm sure you know Kuchiki-san better than I do. She won't care what shape they are, probably. Probably I'm the one who's interested in cute shapes," and laughed, self-deprecating.

It took a minute, and then Ichigo sighed, irritable, and reached into his back pocket for his wallet. He tossed it at her and said, "Buy the ones with the shapes. And -- some more candles."

Maybe it was worth it for the way Orihime's smile quickly brightened the room again, outshining a hundred and fifty birthday candles.

And since we're agreed on not ACTUALLY playing with this concept, I want ZR!Lelouch+earlyR1!Suzaku. Meeting in Wasteland or something, IDK. :D

...it's angsty more than romantic? No wait. If you can swing it, let Lelouch top a little by Knowing Things. Bedroom things.
