Raven ship?! Meme sheep!
After having read the summary of the first part of the Tales of Vesperia novel with Raven's backstory, I... think I ship Raven/Sodia. In the game and in the novel Raven has compared her to Flynn (he said that Yuri and Flynn remind him of himself and Casey; since Raven and Yuri have a lot in common, I've always assumed that Flynn must remind him of her). This is still a decent comparison after reading the novel; they certainly have a lot of attitudes and conflicts in common.
But Casey seems very Sodialike, too. I thought so the moment she snapped at Duke for suggesting they flee the battlefield, because that's not what Commandant Alexei said; when they said things like she never made sarcastic commentary; when they commented on her strict unsmiling hostility towards young!Raven. Now I kind of want to fic Raven/Sodia.
Also, Casey was a captain? Awesome. Go go female captain.
Also, loved the Alexei we saw in this novel, it explains so much about why Flynn idolized him.

(a) 3 headcanon facts
1... The jobs that the Vatican asks of Link involve killing much more often than they do not. He doesn't have a significant problem with that, and of course, he'll never breathe a word about it to anyone.
2... He got into baking to relax himself, because he adooores sugar, and because they make excellent gifts. Who doesn't like cake and pie? But he has started changing his cooking ways to represent more balanced meals after months of nitpicking the food choices of King Carbs-a-lot.
3... Link always has two books on him: one actual book, and one of his journals. When you see him reading, it's about half and half as to whether or not he's ever reading the novel, or rereading his old journal entries. It's supposed to keep him focused on his mission, but lately those entries are just a sequence of anecdotes about derpy things Allen did, so it's kind of -- nostalgic instead.
(b) 2 awesome things about him
1... I absolutely adore how Link spent a few chapters just looking like some accountant nerd who followed Allen around and made him do paperwork and smirked in a superior way when Allen went "THERE'S A MAN IN THE MIRROR WHY DON'T YOU SEE IT??" and even when he came on missions with them just sat in a corner and read his book. ...and then surprised everyone when he turned out to have awesome ninja sorcerer skills.
2... During the incident where everyone turned into zombies, Link very fussily wrote a journal entry about how this was all Komui's fault, and someone should take away that man's funding. And then Komui's robot ate his journal and ran away. I love those two pages way more than I have any reason to.
(c) 5 things that should happen to him
1... He should never find that all his riding pants things have been burned and then never go back to wearing them.
2... He should get to do more baking. When was the last time he got to enjoy a really good pie?!
3... He should get to save more Exorcists and get to fully infiltrate the four leads, instead of just lurking around them.
4... He should definitely have a crisis about Madarao, Tevak, and Tokusa being kidnapped by the Earl so that I can see his backstory.
5... He should get to have some conflict with Leverrier. He's been that man's faithful dog for too long and I want to see him starting to resent it. This thing that happened with Allen last chapter is the perfect opportunity; he's already resenting it.
(d) 3 ships
1... ALLEN. Oh yes. The canon connection they have, the growing bond, the fact that Link comes out of the nowhere and has an angsty flashback to all the times he's spent with Allen and just knows that Allen is different somehow, his angst at the idea of having to kill him if he goes out of control -- it's amazing.
2... Tevak. She's the Third girl he's been hanging out with, Madarao's younger sister, and Link's connection to them is currently unknown but very interesting. I really enjoyed the panels where they were together, and his efforts to save both her and Allen when she started to attack Allen.
3... Lenalee. Why? I don't really know. But I kind of ship it.

I didn't really ship Raven with anyone either! I mean, there were tiny things I enjoyed the idea of -- like pairing him with Flynn and Estelle, for intellectual reasons, but not so much that I'd consider it really a ship. In the game he never connected enough with anyone but Yuri for me to feel like there was a good canon basis (although he also has a good number of scenes with Flynn in the PS3) and Yuri I've always felt is more of a "You remind me of me" coupled with occasional fatherly pride.
But -- unlike the party -- it's not like he ever had the opportunity to interact with Sodia, or give us a real impression of how he sees her. And with this feeling that Casey was a lot like her, I think it could be really interesting to see where that goes.

1... When Yuri left the knights, Flynn encouraged Repede to go with him. He wanted to know someone was looking after him. But it made it harder for him, essentially losing his best friend and his dog in one fell swoop, and he was pretty miserable (and more than a little angry) for a while.
2... Flynn has been chased by women all his life, but he has never, ever taken advantage of this. He's not a virgin, and he can recognize when he's being hit on (if it's heavy-handed enough), but his relatively few dalliances have been initiated by him.
3... The Flynn who lived in the Lower Quarter was a little less polite, a little less mannerly, and a lot less restrained. He acted on impulse at least as often as Yuri, threw himself into fights headfirst, and although still prone to worrying ("Are you alright, Yuri?") was also a little bit of a braggart. He also smiled and laughed more.
(b) 2 awesome things about him
1... Only two things?! Then I would like my entire first thing to be scenes from the game. Like the jailbreak. And the magistrate's palace. And the merfish story.
2... He's so -- complicated, but in this clear and pure way. He's both a stern and upright leader, and a moe fluffmonster. He's not "Lawful Stupid", to copy a phrase from
(c) 5 things that should happen to him
1... He should find that unfamiliar scar on Yuri's abdomen and wonder where it came from.
2... He should be completely taken aback by Ioder in really any way, shape, or form. Surprise romantic advice? Secret evil plotting? Unexpected personal revelations?
3... He should end up wearing
cat earssome form of ears for Yuri to react to. ♥4... Someone should actually get around to telling him -- about his cooking. How he's managed to go all this time without anyone ever telling him to stay out of the kitchen... Yuri in particular is guilty of enabling him by remaining silent.
5... I need Flynn to get drunk. I want to know what kind of drunk he is. X3
(d) 3 ships
1... Yuri, of course. His relationship with Yuri, friendly or otherwise, is one of the biggest selling points of this game for me. Flynn's admiration for Yuri that Yuri doesn't think he's worthy of, and Yuri's admiration for Flynn that Flynn doesn't even really seem to notice. I was completely sold on this pairing from the jailbreak in Dahngrest, their complete and unspoken understanding of each other. Furthermore, I think that Flynn's feelings for Yuri are 95% canon.
2... Alexei. As one-sided hero worship, mostly. But Alexei is everything that Flynn wants to be, is the original "commoner revolutionizing the system", is the one who made it possible for people like Flynn to come after him. Flynn's naked admiration of him is obvious in their very few interactions, and with all of Flynn's expanded "I still can't believe it, I want this to have been a misunderstanding" and flinching when Alexei speaks to him directly at Zaude about how the Empire is too corrupt to be saved -- I can't help but feel like there was a crush there that gave him a certain weakness for Alexei. And if there was anything to this ship, I'm sure it would be twisted, and that is always fun.
3... Estelle. Partly because of how they would rot my teeth in the best possible way, they would just be completely adorable together. I saw a quasi-official relationship chart where Flynn and Estelle had a mutual "worries about" arrow. How cute is that?? But they're definitely not up there with the other two on this list; they have virtually the same dynamic as friends.

And, yeah. Alexei/Flynn would be a great pairing for terrible, terrible porn.
Also I agree on Estelle. idk what it is about them but they are so cute. I think I was even MORE sold on it when it turned out that all they talked about for 2 to 3 years was Yuri.
...It's funny, I think I may have more active het ships for Vesperia by virtue of it -- not having any canon ones. I like subtext better. ;; So Yuri/Judith is like. Nngh. I like it a lot.
