3DS design flaw: Causing hatred
I realized Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is out, so I decided to pick up re:Coded again and try to finish it so I could see if I care. I played a little, and gained a level, and almost died like four times, but I made it.
Then I realized I couldn't remember how to save. Was it in the menu? Maybe it's just in the menu. So I press the big obvious button on the front of my 3DS.
Which is the power button.
Why this design decision? Why place the power button right under the heel of my hand, so that I can accidentally turn off my game? And have, in the past!
And then why make it insulting? Why, when I press this button, does the system immediately ditch all my game progress, but not turn off fully? Then it just goes "Do you want to turn off the rest of the way, or just go to the menu? You can't go back to your game, though, I've already ruined that!"
That button should just open a menu that says "Do you want to turn off the console, go to the console menu, or cancel and go back to your game?"
Now I'm sad and angry, so I'm going to play more FF9. I'm going to be continuing my liveblogging here.

How is re:Coded? Is that the updated version of Chain of Memories?

re:Coded is actually a cell phone game just called KH: Coded that was obviously released in Japan only, but they revamped it and put it together to make a... rather strange DS entry called re:Coded. It's very weird -- all the character interaction is slideshow-style, like a Powerpoint presentation with images of the characters. So far it's mostly been rehashing old game territory with really, really weird gimmicks, and it's kind of working for me. The area of the game I'm in is particularly hard, because I'm in KH1 Hollow Bastion, and Sora has lost his keyblade and he won't even pick up a stick to defend himself with. So I have to let Donald and Goofy do all the fighting and just vaguely indicate how they should do it and occasionally throw potions at them, and this is one of those long, mandatory battles on a moving platform. I had just survived the battle, replenished my items, and -- whoops, that wasn't saving. :\
re:Chain of Memories is absolutely worth a play too, if you haven't played it.

Ahhh I see. That does sound a little strange, but if the story's good, that's all that matters.
Aughhh so you have to redo that entire fight? 8( I hate it when that happens.
I do have Chain of Memories for the GBA and I'm so bad at the card system. I got to the Replica Riku battle and just... kept dying.

re:Coded is a lot like Birth By Sleep in terms of battle systems, if you've played that.
:|a ...and I don't feel like complaining anymore! I think I'm sufficiently over my grief over losing my save, and can continue. That's good. Sometimes I lose save data and I'm like "/TABLEFLIPS FOREVER, QUITS GAME FOR EIGHT MONTHS"

Ohhh okay. Then it's not too bad. I didn't have a ton of trouble with BBS (though I did waste hours on that boardgame mini-game. S-so addictive.)
Ahahahaha I do that too. Or I get stuck at a boss and don't feel like going back and grinding so I set it aside and don't get back to it for months or even years. Oops.

OH BUT ACTUALLY, SPEAKING OF VIDEO GAMES AND KINGDOM HEARTS my brother no longer uses his DS so I stole it from him and he happened to have KH:358/2 so I figured I'd be a nerd and start playing. And while I realize it's not the original KH, asd;fljasfd Roxas and Xion and Axel are adorable.
WHY DIDN'T I GET TO PLAY THIS SOONER IN MY CHILDHOOD. D: Also, now I miss your Roxas. ;-;
