3DS design flaw: Causing hatred

I realized Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is out, so I decided to pick up re:Coded again and try to finish it so I could see if I care. I played a little, and gained a level, and almost died like four times, but I made it.

Then I realized I couldn't remember how to save. Was it in the menu? Maybe it's just in the menu. So I press the big obvious button on the front of my 3DS.

Which is the power button.

Why this design decision? Why place the power button right under the heel of my hand, so that I can accidentally turn off my game? And have, in the past!

And then why make it insulting? Why, when I press this button, does the system immediately ditch all my game progress, but not turn off fully? Then it just goes "Do you want to turn off the rest of the way, or just go to the menu? You can't go back to your game, though, I've already ruined that!"

That button should just open a menu that says "Do you want to turn off the console, go to the console menu, or cancel and go back to your game?"

Now I'm sad and angry, so I'm going to play more FF9. I'm going to be continuing my liveblogging here.

Yeah, when I was playing on my friend's 3DS, the whole design confused me a little. I guess it's something you get used to over time, but I always thought the little sliding power button on the side was a good idea. /old school

How is re:Coded? Is that the updated version of Chain of Memories?

It's so classic. ;; I also get kind of confused because so many systems have standby modes in addition (or instead of) shutdown modes.

Ahhh I see. That does sound a little strange, but if the story's good, that's all that matters.

Aughhh so you have to redo that entire fight? 8( I hate it when that happens.

I do have Chain of Memories for the GBA and I'm so bad at the card system. I got to the Replica Riku battle and just... kept dying.

I might give it a try at some point. I'm sure the game is pretty cheap and easy to find.

Ohhh okay. Then it's not too bad. I didn't have a ton of trouble with BBS (though I did waste hours on that boardgame mini-game. S-so addictive.)

Ahahahaha I do that too. Or I get stuck at a boss and don't feel like going back and grinding so I set it aside and don't get back to it for months or even years. Oops.
