The world feels so hopeless and bleak these days. I'm unemployed and depressed and every time there's news, global or national or even personal, it seems to be hideous. I keep waiting for things to get better! For us to stop saying that it's okay to murder black teenagers if you find black teenagers scary, or that there's no more racism wink wink so let's stop enforcing any laws meant to prevent the disenfranchisement of minority voters, or that we're going to do our damnedest to dictate the way all women think and feel and act and dress and get medical care because they have no value except as objects for men... and that's just America's fuckery. Let's not talk about the rest of the world, about Brazil and Egypt and...
Bleh. The real problem is that it makes me want to avoid the internet and just zone out doing nothing but playing Harvest Moon all day. In Harvest Moon, all I have to worry about is not marrying any character who looks or acts 12.
...Pacific Rim was amazing, by the way! Everyone should see it.
That was supposed to be what this journal post was about before crippling bleakness settled in.

What's Pacific Rim about, anyway? I'm hearing a lot about it on DW and LJ.

The movie explores a Jaeger pilot who lost his brother/partner in an attack, but who gets dragged back into the fray for the final push against the Kaiju, with a new co-pilot. It's not a perfect movie plotwise, but it's incredible as far as summer action films go: the main relationship is open to interpretation as romantic or familial, the film deconstructs the obedient female Japanese secretary who kicks ass, and it made me cry like three times because of its heavy focus on family bonds both literal and figurative. And the action is amazing. The double attack in the mid/high point of the movie is insane.
Idris Elba is amazing in it and I didn't know Rinko Kikuchi before going in but I sure do now.

Then the next day, I went on Tumblr and Twitter and the reality set in. I felt so nauseous. Thanks for making me ashamed again, Florida. Your idea of "justice" makes me sick.
Don't even get me started on the abortion laws being passed in some states. It's just a gigantic deluge of shit that feels impossible to tolerate, much less fight back against.
I've been hiding in Animal Crossing. I legit can't handle all of this.
