Hayato has been making charms for his village, but he is too incompetent to write a letter without assistance, so he demands Corrin help. Bemused, she does. Her suggestion of telling battle stories goes over well, and he tells her that she should write a letter for him as well. The Wind Tribe was happy, but Hayato is less happy with the letter Corrin writes for him, because it's just compliments of him since she couldn't think of anything else to say, since he... lives here. He resolves to write a letter that will embarrass her, and they become stupid penpals. 1/5

If you're a weird person who wants to S rank them, the scene starts with his letter, which is full of praise to make her embarrassed. It ends with a confession of love. He says it was easier to express his feelings in writing than out loud. He included a charm that will protect her if she loves him too, and she says it will definitely work. "I just know we'll be super strong together," he waxes poetic. Support: Super sad.

It's late at night and Hayato has heard too many scary stories from the soldiers, and he and Felicia spook each other pretty badly. He puffs himself up about how soundly he'd sleep if he wanted to and she knows he's a liar but offers him some of her bedtime tea. When she catches up with him, he tells her that the tea didn't work on him, since he's a diviner and uses herbs all the time on himself. But he appreciates the thought. Felicia has another bright idea to help him sleep and gives him a rare extra-soft blanket she acquired. The blanket is a big success. She is happy that it helped him, because she's always wanted a younger brother. Hayato is immediately agitated to be treated like a little kid and sulks off. 0/5, ship dead in the water

Oh wait, you want to S rank it, pervert? Fine. Felicia is still trying to share things with her little brother, but Hayato tells her he wants her to see him as a man, not a little brother. HE HAS FEELINGS, FELICIA!! FOR YOU!! Felicia has the epiphany that she was telling herself she cared about him as a brother because she didn't want to acknowledge that she's in love with him. Sure. Support: Oh brother.

Rinkah finds Hayato trying to ditch the vegetables that he won't eat, because he's DEFINITELY an adult. Rinkah is annoyed by this childish behavior and the wasting of food during wartime, but she eats his vegetables after he stomps off. The next time he tries to sneakily feed his veggies to the family dog, she tells him to (and then forces him to) hold his nose while he eats them to try and dull the taste. Even though she's said all this time that they are fried vegetables, she decides that what she really needs to do is boil them. This is a good translation. Boil the fried vegetables. Anyway, she uses a Fire Tribe spice and he's a big fan, so he eagerly asks her to help him out with ALL THE OTHER FOODS HE CAN'T STAND.

Then, the S rank. Rinkah is annoyed that she has been cooking so much for this jerk. He tells her that he's fallen in love with her kindness and generosity and yelling. She admits to liking him too, but he has to cook for his damn self sometimes. Support: Bitter.

Sakura has some red bean mochi and happily offers to share it with Hayato, but he bitches about how sweet stuff is FOR GIRLS and she shouldn't have dared to presume he'd want any. She feels bad, but promptly eats the whole thing while he's working through his tsundere routine. Noticing that he actually wanted some, she promises to leave some for him next time. Sakura wonders why he pretends not to like sweets but the reason is, of course, that it's a kiddy thing and he doesn't want to be seen as a kid. She tells him that she'll offer him some of all her sweets so everyone will think he's just doing it for her. He brings HER some sweets to thank her, and says that thanks to her kindness he's decided it's okay to be himself, so he no longer cares if people know he likes sweets. They decide to remain pastry pals. 4/5

S time. Sakura has developed a Pavlovian Hayato = dessert reflex where she gets hungry when she sees him, lol. He says he wants to take her to a bakery... like, on a date. Because he likes her. And she says she'd never thought that someone as mature as he is would be into her, and he says they're both mature and anyway we can be ourselves together. She agrees. Support: Pastry pairing!

Hayato has a THOUSAND questions for Azura about all the places she's lived, and she does NOT want to answer them. He decides that those times must have been hard for her and feels bad about asking. Doesn't she have any good memories? She tells him about the night sky in Nohr, and the sunset in a seaside town, and it's exactly what he wanted to hear. She keeps telling him stories and thanks him for making him realize not all her experiences were bad. She says he's a "thoughtful boy" and he ragequits. She doesn't even know why he's offended and calls him "dear". Weird! 2/5 I guess? Maybe 3/5?

For the S support, Hayato approaches Azura and tells him that he's training every day to get stronger so he can protect her. He wants to visit all the places she talked about with her. He will marry her someday!! Azura literally tells him that he's sweet and they'll be good friends until he grows up and maybe he'll change his mind by then. It's amazing. That's the best age difference S support I've ever seen, but either it's stupid or all his other supports where adults pretend he's capable of making commitments like that are stupid. Support: SOMEDAY BUT NOT TODAY, HAYATO.

Hayato is troubled by the gifts that the Wind Tribe is sending him. Purses, dolls, accessories, and decorated all over with flowers. He is extremely not into them and wants to return them, but Hana thinks they're the cutest fucking things ever and takes the whole damn box. She is SO HAPPY. She actually tells other girls in the army about the purses and that he can get them more like them because he loves flowery things. I don't know why she'd have come to that conclusion when she knows he wanted to get rid of them. Hayato is literally sick thinking about what other people will think about him now, and Hana has to go tell everyone that he didn't like flowery things (and no one especially cared). Hayato forgives her, and gives her more purses the Wind Tribe sent him. She tells him to keep an eye out for any with sakura flowers on them, heehee. 4/5

In the S support Hana is so freaking happy with the sakura purses that it's kind of weirding Hayato out, lol. He's grumpy that the woman he likes is more interested in the purses than she is in him. He confesses his feelings, seeing her fierce side in battle and her soft side with the girly stuff. Hana says she likes him too, and she knows that he specifically asked for the sakura purses -- she's been writing to the Wind Tribe women! Also, she was happy he gave them to her not because she has matching sakura purses with Sakura. Boo. Support: Fashionable.

Orochi wants to share herbs with Hayato, but they end up in a weird dick-measuring contest about who can get the most valuable and rarest herb, and who makes the most potent potions, and they have a lot of fun with it. They also gain some respect for each other, and for their craft. They shake hands. 3/5

Then, a weird S support scene. Hayato and Orochi both confess to feelings and it becomes a weird dick-measuring contest about who liked who first. They will be LOVERS AND RIVALS. Support: Ummm.

Hayato finds Hinoka folding paper cranes and she explains the tradition: you fold a thousand cranes to make your wish come true. She's making them for the safe success of the army. He's kind of impressed with her dedication and offers to help, and make them better with DIVINATION. He proposes a conveyor belt method and they're done with a thousand cranes in short order. They both enjoy it! Good times. 3/5

Now to do the S. Hinoka is teaching him to fold origami and he thinks about how different she is than he first assumed. He admits that he likes this side of her, and has feelings for her now. She says she's happy and agrees to be his without actually talking about any sort of feelings. Weird. Support: Paper thin.

In a weird support where NO ONE FALLS DOWN ANY HOLES, Hayato hears a strange sound that turns out to be Setsuna humming, but it's like, magic humming, and it summons wildlife so that she can kill it. Hooray? Hayato concludes that it's kind of creepy though and can she not do it, or at least do it with a happier tune? He likes the happy tune much more, but she doesn't like it, so she keeps humming the one that creeps him out. Uh... 1/5 I guess...

Weirdoes who S support them will get Hayato requesting humming that is NOT creepy. Setsuna says that only Hinoka has heard her humming happily, because she only hums when she's in a great mood or when someone she really likes asks her to. Through all of my eyerolling they both confess to like-liking each other and they decide to be together. Support: Creepy.

Hayato has been avoiding Oboro (and fleeing in shrieking terror from her) because he's been scared of her ever since seeing her demon face in battle. She explains her parents' death for the umpteenth time, and he decides he's not scared of her anymore. He tells the story of his own parents' death, but he has no memory of them. They decide to honor their parents by ending the war. Mmmkay. 1/5

Kagero has been asked to maintain friendly relations with Hoshido and the Wind Tribe, for some reason. Kagero's first question is why Hayato speaks oddly, and he says it's just him, and anyway you speak oddly too, and he runs away like a weirdo. He refuses to explain why he speaks in an apparently remarkable way, so she explains her end, how she admired the respectful way that her very formal parents spoke, so she tried to copy them and now that's how she talks. He reluctantly explains that he has a prominent rank in his tribe but people are still uncomfortable with how young he looks, so he tries to speak as maturely as possible. Kagero says she thinks it suits his strong will and self-possession and bond with his tribe, and he is very happy about her positive opinion of him. 3/5

Let's see if we can make it weird in an S-rank scene! Hayato seeks out Kagero's advice and she's flattered, and he says, what if I asked for your heart!!!! He has decided she is irreplaceable and worthy to be with him. She does not see him as a child and feels appreciated and wants to support him. They agree to be together. It's pretty tepid. Support: Replaceable.

Hayato finds Mozu fretting and offers to help her with his charms. She says that she has combat anxiety and he says that he can't relate personally bc he's super cool with fighting, but he can help. He tells her that the charm will only work if she believes in it, and she's slightly dubious about magic that just requires breathing deeply but goes along with it. It worked for her, so she plots to make a lot of the charms and sell them to make money for the army, lolol. He says that would not work. Boo! 3/5

Then they S it up. Mozu is still very happy with her charm and Hayato wants her to accept his feelings too. He's liked her since he first saw her and wanted to help her however he could. She tells him that he's "dependable" and "helps those in need" and "tries to cheer her up" and she's "thankful for that" and he's like, this is a rejection, right? It sure sounds like it, but she says she thinks he's wonderful, so I guess I'll take her word for it. Support: Believe in it and it will work.
