Step one of my streamlining is deciding which supports to focus on. e.g. pick my marriages.

AZAMA

AZAMA/CORRIN

[sincere]

Corrin was out for a walk and found Azama meditating. He is his usual sunny bitchy self but he teaches her how to meditate and she's kind of into it. She goes back to see him again to learn more, and Azama kills and skins a bear, to her horror. A total lack of zen was had, but later she concedes that the bear stew was delicious and they talk about meditation and how it helps to cope with war and loss, etc. He pays her a sincere if backhanded compliment and she asks to stay and meditate with him again. I ship it! 5/5


In the S support, she's worried about him because he hasn't been around much. He's been keeping to himself and turning the bear fur from their outing into a pelt for her. It is his proposal of marriage! He has realized she is a beautiful and inquisitive spirit and life is so short that prolonged courtship is a waste of time. Corrin is kind of into it! Support: Approved.

AZAMA/FELICIA

Azama does not get being a maid. Why be so devoted to anyone? Felicia suggests he should try being a maid for a while to see things from her perspective. Even he thinks this is stupid, but agrees to do it for no reason. She takes him along on her disastrous daily routine, and he is amazed that she manages to stay employed. After a while he realizes that in trying to help, he's been doing her job for her. He feels wildly out of character. I agree with him. 0/5


In the S support, Azama makes a generic confession about being unable to stop thinking about her and how well they work together and offers to continue helping her with her chores. They end on a tepid "I like you" without getting into an absurd engagement, but that only makes it more weaksauce. Support: DENIED.

AZAMA/RINKAH

Rinkah wants Azama to heal a cut she got, but they descend into bitchy cross-fire quickly over her insistence on calling him a "heretic", so he refuses. She returns with proof of his heretical beliefs: someone said he told them "All religion is nonsense." He did! He doesn't think that contradicts with being a monk, and they are at STARK disagreement. Eventually she concedes that since he does help people and he is dedicated in his weird way, he's probably fine. She demands that he take her to visit her tribe's sacred mountains someday. Cool. 3/5


S support time! He has found a map of her mountain ranges, and she is super excited and wants to go like, right now, but is suspicious that he's stopped arguing with her. He says that it's been fun bickering with her and he realized he wants to go traveling with her. They realize they mutually like each other. No marriage is proposed. Support: Fine.

AZAMA/SAKURA

Azama wants to know why Sakura doesn't abuse her position more because it's probably awesome to be able to boss people around. She gets agitated that he seems to think less of her for not being a dick, which he likes, because that makes her more of a dick. Eventually she flips out on him, to his delight. He later apologizes (insincerely) and gives her an expensive and meaningful amulet, so her anger leaks away. Just as planned. 3/5


In the S support, he tells her that he's looking forward to getting married. Since the amulet was a proposal, by the way. He pretends to be quite baffled that she didn't realize it at the time. Sakura realizes that all of his ridiculousness is a cover for the fact that he just wants to be with her. She says she has always had a crush on him (of course) but... he was a dick, sooooo. Support: Well. The amulet was a cute gimmick.

AZAMA/AZURA

[sincere]

Azama has been stalking Azura and finally says that although she's an inspirational figure in the army, he senses a secret dark fatalism in her heart that reminds him of himself. Azura is deeply disturbed by his analysis, and leaves. He keeps running into her and harassing her, trying to get her to confide in him. In the end he tells her that he's not just asking out of intellectual curiosity -- he thinks that she's under a lot of pressure and she's an introverted person, and it's not healthy to keep the things that stress her out bottled up inside. She realizes that all this time he's been worried about her, in his infuriatingly bitchy way, and he is irritated to realize that she is right. She seems pleased once she figures it out, though she doesn't agree to confide in him. I ship it! 5/5


In the S support she hunts him down, and he's hopeful she's ready to share her feelings with him. She explains her seeming coolness and distance with everyone, and he's like, "Duh. I just wanted to see how you'd react to the way I said it. BUT I CAN TAKE IT NO MORE. I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOUR SWEET AND FRAGILE BEAUTY." Support: Um. I shipped it more before you made it weird.

AZAMA/HANA

Hana is out practicing her martial arts slicing-up-tree techniques, and the tree almost kills a nearby meditating Azama. Repeat! Azama decides with irritation that next time she should invite him so that they both know where they are in relation to each other while she's practicing. She does not, and he continues to almost die until he forces her to realize that his plan makes more sense. 1/5


The S support is Hana telling him that she wants to be together always, because of the reasons. He agrees that their meeting up was probably destiny, or something. Support: No.

AZAMA/OROCHI

Orochi has been having staring contests with Azama that he didn't realize were happening. He is irritated by the losses he didn't know about, and professes to have never thought about her, like, ever, because of how lame and unimportant she is, then proclaims that she lost the insult contest that she didn't know was happening. Touche. He later on bribes her with extremely rare herbs to tell him her weakness, which is rats, and then she lives in terror for a little while waiting for him to use this information against her. He is actually a sweet and innocent flower child who has used this information to create magical wards against rats. Cute! He's the worst. 4/5


In the S support he asks for another weakness, to her exasperation, and he reminds her that she started the whole thing. She says she has a weakness for socially awkward monks, dares him to marry her, and then reveals that THIS WAS HER PLAN ALL ALONG, YOU FOOL! Support: Devious.

AZAMA/HINOKA

[sincere]

Azama cheerfully insults his princess's hair and clothes and general aptitude, and she's like, WHOSE RETAINER ARE YOU ANYWAY? He agrees that he is technically her servant, even though the reason he's her servant is because he rescued her. After a battle, he observes her mourning the deaths of soldiers and is like, w/e, life is fleeting. She's irritated by his callousness and says, then why did you save MY life? He says it was the furious look on her face while she should have been dying. The same face she's making now! The next time a soldier is dying, she tells Azama to save him, and Azama refuses until she flat-out orders him to. In the end, the man dies horribly, with Azama's efforts only prolonging his suffering.

AZAMA: I was just following orders. Orders that I wish I had disobeyed, to be perfectly frank. You're a kind person, but I fear that one day your kindness will be your downfall.

HINOKA: Azama...

AZAMA: --I'm sorry. Of all the things I have said to you...and WILL say to you in the future... I believe that may have crossed a line. May you never lose your fragile innocence.

Quoted because goddamn, I would ship the HELL out of that. I would read that novel. I didn't even have high hopes for this interaction. 5/5


In the S support Azama waltzes into her bedroom without waiting for permission, because why would he need permission to enter his future wife's bedroom? She cackles in disbelief. He explains that he knows everything about her, knows that she respects him, knows that he's the only one here strong enough for her, and she's the only one interesting enough for him. "I don't know why it didn't occur to me before!" She is reluctantly impressed to be receiving the MOST ARROGANT MARRIAGE PROPOSAL OF ALL TIME, and accepts. But he has no idea what he signed up for...!

A LOT of that support was quotable. I really had to restrain myself.

Support: APPROVED!

AZAMA/SETSUNA

[sincere]

Setsuna is returning with groceries and is ready to cook dinner, TO AZAMA'S UNENDING HORROR. All his snark bounces off Setsuna obliviously. Her meal is the worst, but he fails to stop a second incursion into cooking, even being as blunt as physically possible. But his attempts to make her cook responsibly make her cook LESS responsibly, which somehow taps into a zen chef nirvana that makes her food amazing. He is baffled, but pleased. 3/5 for humor!!


Then, to ruin it, the S support. Setsuna tells Azama she was lying during the A support, in reality she cooked well because she just really wanted to impress him, because she likes him. Azama can only conclude that in some weird way, fate brought them together. They both admit that they have had feelings for a long time and Azama pledges to become a different, nicer person. Support: GET OUT. Really, Azama might have ended up in the Sunken Place.

AZAMA/OBORO

Azama is bemused by how happy Oboro seems doing menial tasks, like talking to herself while she cleans and singing while she picks out clothes for the royals to wear. When he mocks her earnestness she rages out and he flees, but she really just demands to know what he's thinking. Why does he try to get a rise out of people? He isn't sure, and broods about the question for a while. Oboro tells him she thinks it's that he doesn't know how to interact with people, so even though he's kind he says sarcastic jerk jokes and that sort of thing. He's impressed that an imbecile like her could have such a thoughtful answer! 2/5

Sure. Then, S support. He says that actually the reason he's a jerk to her is because he has feelings for her. [The reason he's a jerk to everyone else is because he also has feelings for all of them.] He was just teasing. Oboro is surprised but says she likes him too, and they can be together as long as he doesn't treat her like a jerk anymore. Support: Fail.

AZAMA/KAGERO

Azama pesters Kagero about her clothes and asks annoying questions like a toddler until she leaves. She keeps ditching him, but warns him that she WILL murder him if he continues to irritate her with his childish sense of humor. Warns him with a knife to his neck. He is cowed into compliance, but later on she's curious about why he asked about her clothes. She didn't realize until he asked that she doesn't know the reason why ninja dress this way. So, good job, she will attempt to learn. He is still terrified she might also kill him. 1/5


In the S support he asks after her research into ninja garb. Azama tells her that he is a jerk to her because he has feelings for her, just like he tells all the girls in the crappy supports. For no particular reason, Kagero likes him too. Support: Yawn.

AZAMA/MOZU

Mozu has heard how awful Azama is because EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY HAS HEARD ABOUT HIM and she is terrified just seeing him approach her. He's pleased to hear this, and her terror amuses him, so he stalks her. He asks her what horrible things she thinks he's going to say about her, so she tells him all her insecurities and he doesn't end up having to say anything. She runs and he chases her, but eventually confesses cheerfully that he has no intention of making fun of her! He doesn't actually say random mean things to people just to make them feel bad. Mozu still thinks he is a nutcase, but maybe not THAT awful. 2/5


Then, we ruin a perfectly neat thing with an S scene. She talked to the townsfolk about him and made a bunch of friends that way, so she's happy, but Azama says he's sad because he wanted to be the one getting close to her. He likes her, because of the reasons, even though it seemed very clear that he'd never even talked to her before the support started. She likes him too, because. Azama proposes they go back to her village and chant sutras in remembrance of the villagers. That's nice. But the Support: Bleh.

FINAL RESULTS

The pairings I will probably be choosing, going forward, in order from most to least DEFINITE.

Saizo/Mozu. I shipped Saizo with a surprising number of women, including Corrin, Felicia, and Rinkah and Sakura to an extent. I was intending to pair him with Felicia because I have very few ships for her, but... the option was taken from me. He just fell into step with Mozu and they had the perfect home life by B-rank.

Takumi/Hana. I also shipped Takumi with Corrin, Azura, and Mozu, but Mozu was taken, and Corrin and Azura are in high demand. Besides, Takumi/Hana was cute.

Kaden/Azura. I couldn't not do it, even though I ship Kaden with a bunch of women: Felicia, Hinoka, Sakura, Setsuna, and maybe less so with Corrin, Kagero, and Oboro. Even though Kaden worked with all of my hard-to-ship women, Azura was already sleeping with him!! The least she could do was make an honest man out of him.

Silas/Corrin. I was frankly shocked by how many of his supports were meh or dumb because I thought for sure he'd be drowning in adorable interactions! I only would've paired him with Corrin or Rinkah, so he's lucky I like childhood friend ships. If he doesn't do better in Conquest he might end up with nobody there. You only get one pity marriage, Silas!

Hinata/Felicia. I shipped him with just about everyone somewhat, but mostly Felicia, Hinoka, and Orochi. But he was the only remaining ship option I had for Felicia. She somewhat condemns Hisame to mediocrity, but eh. Their support was super sweet. He helped her discover something she's awesome at and takes pride in!

Now we enter the problem vortex.

Ryoma/Oboro. I thought his interaction with her was definitely shippable, and I also shipped him to varying degrees with Azura, Hana, Orochi, Rinkah, and Corrin. I was really, really tempted to go Ryoma/Azura, but... Kaden. Oboro seemed like she could be Shiro's mom more than Orochi or Rinkah.

Subaki/Hinoka. They are two glorious perfect warriors leading their sky brigades together. I also would've paired Subaki with Azura, Mozu, Oboro, and Sakura, but I liked his support with Hinoka best. Coincidentally, I think it gives Caeldori Cordelia hair.

Kaze/Sakura. I shipped Kaze with her, Corrin, Azura, and Orochi. This was a tough choice because I loved him with all of them, but my options were narrowing, and Midori looks so cute she could totally be Sakura's child.

Azama/Orochi. I'd ship Azama with Corrin, Azura, and Hinoka without reservation. I really wanted to pair him with Hinoka but I don't think she's as good a mother for Mitama as she is for Caeldori. So instead I went to my "shipping WITH reservation" pairings and thus, Orochi.

Jakob/Rinkah. I shipped Jakob some amount with Hinoka, Oboro, Azura, Corrin, and Rinkah. In the end, I decided that Hinoka and Oboro didn't deserve a goon like Dwyer for a child, but Rinkah could keep him in line.

Hayato/Kagero. I shipped Hayato with Sakura, Hana, maybe Mozu and Orochi, and no one else. I very nearly decided that I wasn't going to pair him with anyone and just not get Rhajat. Sakura and Hana don't deserve a goon like Rhajat for a child, but I don't care about Kagero, so why not her? Besides, the only other available female is Setsuna, and I don't think she should pass on her genes.
