Updates! The manga, game, and movie invasion

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Pretty much everything I'd hoped it would be, and then some, since fortunately I wasn't asking for plot twists or subtlety or anything. It can stay.

Bleach 317

That color spread is gorgeous. Ichigo and Rukia's reunion was adorable. I fangirl Orihime more with just about every passing chapter.

DGM 166

I so didn't even realize that was Allen until I read it again, I are inattentive. Also, Mana, whaaat. Goddamn the art in this series is gorgeous.

Odin Sphere

Finished playing through Gwendolyn's story, started on Cornelius's. The pooka are so cute aaaah. Oswald/Gwendolyn can stay. I kind of want to drabble for them, but I guess I should play Oswald's story before I write anything involving him. Myrissss This game gets really hard -- I die on every boss, mini-boss, and some random battles -- but since death is totally painless, it was less a matter of difficulty and more a matter of patience.

Me

Why do I have the flu sdlkfjslfj

klfdsasdkkj fuck yeah Odin Sphere. It's really hard, so I'm stuck in Mercedes' story, but freaking Cornelius is the cutest thing eeevvverrr.

I hope you get better!

We've only just started him, literally only played the tutorial fight, but awwww, I'm already full of squee at him. I've been in love with the pooka ever since I saw Myris, soooo. XD

It is hard, bah. But it's so gorgeous I can't put it down.

Thanks ♥

You make me wanna play again. I don't have any patience at all, and the constant dying made me grind my teeth even before I hit the bug of no escaping a stage.

[identity profile] v-voltaire.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
If you've played all the way through, replaying is easy because you keep all your stats but the enemies don't get any harder.

[identity profile] maladaptive.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even finish Gwendolyn's story before I hit a bug that trapped me in a stage. I couldn't even go backwards. By then I was so disgusted by the hardness that I just put it down in favor of something else.

Aw. Odin Sphere is probably the most frustrating game I played all the way through. I was very tempted to give up at several points ([livejournal.com profile] kay_willow is fast approaching an extremely annoying battle against wizards. THEY CAN TURN YOU INTO A FROG AND AT THIS POINT YOU HAVE NO ANTI-FROG POTION) but the Pretty and the story kept me going.

Easy Mode and potions are your friends.

[identity profile] v-voltaire.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Odin Sphere! Yeah, you should wait to write Oswald/Gwendolyn until you've played Oswald's chapter. For me, it changed their dynamic entirely (in a good way; I didn't like Oswald/Gwendolyn until then). Are you playing on Easy mode? I found some battles impossible to win without switching to Easy mode, if only because the lag wasn't quite so awful. Also, learning how to use potions is really important for survival. I figured that out way late in the game.

I didn't know you could switch to easy mode at will. But holy crap I'm totally going to do that on some boards. XD Are there any, like, you know, consequences? Does it matter how you go through the game?

Interesting about Oswald and Gwendolyn; I know that there's a sort of shady aspect to their relationship, in the way they've both been emotionally crippled and cling to each other desperately (I'm totally comfortable assuming he is, what with the being-sold-to-the-queen-of-the-dead-by-his-family thing) as well as the questionable circumstances of their relationship (the whole making a bargain in exchange for marrying her thing, the spell that makes her love him). But I like those things; they present an interesting angle on her character development and make it ripe for introspection. *fails*

Anyway, if Oswald's chapter presents a different view of their relationship, I'll definitely wait, because I really want to see how he and Odin struck that bargain. Also lol Onyx.

[identity profile] v-voltaire.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The main consequence of switching to Easy Mode is Not Dying. Other than that, everything's the same, and you can still unlock the secret ending if you're masochistic enough. (I thought I was, but as it turns out, I'm not. Protip: never send Mercedes up against the world dragon. The flying doesn't help.)

You find out more about Oswald and Gwendolyn's first meeting and some interesting details about the bargain and Odin's family during Oswald's chapter. It doesn't really change it that much, it just adds a different perspective to it.

Also, there is much more lol Onyx. lol Onyx indeed. This makes me want to go and fix my shirtless Onyx icon, just so I can use it.

But it still doesn't compare to lol Ingway, whom you will be meeting very soon.

Bleach: I found their reunion more amusing than anything. Rukia was like "Yeah, I'm fine. Now quit screwing around and go save Orihime, asshole!"

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually exactly what I liked about their reunion. XD It's exactly what I like about them. They're no-nonsense, down-to-earth, all about the important stuff. No fluffy reunions for Rukia and Ichigo, no sir! She tells him to quit mooning around in warmfuzzy over his friends coming back and go rescue the girl.

Despite all the wibbling from fangirls, touting reunions as if they were the deciding factor of your chosen ship (and I'm sure people will just claim I'm bitter about it because Ichigo and Orihime "didn't get a reunion", which I've heard but I don't know what that's even supposed to mean) (some days I don't know if I should just unfriend certain comms; I like bitching about the things they say but I don't know if it's worth the daily aggravation) I don't actually think reunions supercede all else in canon. It would've been really damn tacky to do anything more while Ulquiorra was pondering putting dents in Orihime to try and find her heart.

Anyway, yeah, the Rukia/Ichigo reunion was about one panel of "yay, she isn't dead!" and one page of "oh yeah, gotta go save Orihime" but I like their relationship for precisely that: it isn't this mushy, overblown thing. They're just important to each other. And that's all.

A lot of people were kinda weird about Bleach, but I thought it was really cool.

Get well soon! ♥

Thanks. :\

I heard whining as well, but I don't know what those people were expecting. XD Everyone all comes together, speeches about friendship, prelude to a significant battle... all seems to be in order. Plus, I like Orihime's character development and I liked Ichigo's reunions with his friends, so... seems fine to me. :D

[identity profile] abrogate-nadir.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
For Bleach, it's kind of funny. My main ship used to be Ichigo and Rukia, but I've really been digging Orihime a lot lately. Even if she isn't super powerful in terms of combat ability, I really think she is still a strong woman. That bit where she was explaining why she wasn't afraid, and her realizations...<3

For DGM, Lenalee is so cute :3 I love when she and Tapp decided they were gonna stay up!

If you have the flu, you should...hmm...eat lots of soup, drink lots of liquids, and get lots of rest. But not before passing it on to as many as you can so they suffer as well.

Yeah, I've always liked Orihime for being the sensitive, sweet one, even though I felt like her potential to kick ass (which IS there!) was was significantly understated when not entirely avoided. I'm still hoping she'll do something ass-kicking (she had some really good moments while Ichigo and Kenpachi were fighting) but I love her -- resolution. Her confidence. It's like a sensitive, sweet girl version of what I like about Aizen. XD

I've always shipped Ichigo/Orihime, even though it was totally unfounded at the beginning. I just really, really like Ichigo and Rukia's friendship too. :3

As for DGM: That was totally adorable. XD Sitting on that couch with their legs curled up to their chests and pouting, hee.

The BLEACH cover was totally gorgeous, I'll agree.
The reunion with everyone was great. How they just got back into battle, no questions asked. [but where was Ishida?]
Orihime is just so great, wow. Her character development really amazes me.

Ah, this week's DGM chapter's cliffhanger had me smashing on the keyboard.
But the part about Allen, the dead dog, and Mana was just so amazing.
[gothic/circus theme of this series is awesome]
D'aww, and I love how fretful Lenalee and Tapp get while waiting for Allen.
