First of all, I would like to state for the record that I think it's sad that I now live in a world where every game I own requires a system software update to play.

I wish I believed they were anything to enhance MY experience.

I have my 3D function turned on with no idea how much to expect from that, or whether to expect anything at all from it.

Oh wow, this is all in 3D and it is disorienting. The 3D makes Luke's room look so tiny. It's like you have a much better perspective for how narrow and weird it is!

Luke attempts to leave the room and receives brain feedback, concludes he's hearing things.

Kay also receives brain feedback, but it's from her brain going, "Where am I supposed to look at this?!"

I am seriously not sure the 3D is adding anything to my gameplay but eyestrain. I will leave it on for a while, but I turned it off and it's not even funny how much easier it was to just -- see.

SKIT! And for some inexplicable reason I was surprised when there was no voice acting. Vesperia spoiled me...

I remember this. Lorelai's ominous text and Lorelai's ominous voice have such obscurity discrepancy. "oul" and "MY SOUL" vs "voice" and "HEED MY VOICE" are different levels of unclear.

I laughed. That and the hilarious WE ARE PLOTTING secret conversation between Van and Guy, with Pere in the background as lookout to say Why Hello There Young Master in a loud voice as soon as Luke shows up.

Guy appears at the window, posing like a champ, makes noises about how the voices in Luke's head are that damn Malkuth's doing (while looking the other way), and then skitters off when a maid arrives. Because he can't be seen with Luke! Luke is too rich!

Guy's intro bits are interesting, since he's definitely having secrets with Van, but also doing a lot more to be friends with Luke than you'd expect, given what we find out later.

/goes to ransack Mom and Dad's room for pocket change

I'm sure it's because of Madam Fabre's delicate health.

Everyone explains to Luke using small words that there's a big important tiny boy named Ion who is all that's keeping the peace between two warring nations and it's Van's job to protect him, and he's gone missing, so Van has to go find him.

Luke's reaction is, "WHATEVER. BUT MY TRAINING!!" because he is amazing in the first part of the game.

Now we are in a pretty place very far away, and Tear is all solicitousness. But you can't fool Luke! He saw you try to kill Master Van!! But he's also not good at asking questions, so Tear explains basic geography (rivers --> oceans!!) and we head out.

I turned the 3D back on to see if Tataroo Valley would be pretty with it, and it is! But you know what, it's just as pretty without.

Luke does this hilarious full-body recoil when the monster appears.

Also, try to keep up, Tear. I'm busy killing monsters over here while you're dithering! /headshake

Kay, don't have a kneejerk frowny face reaction to Tear. There is probably a reasonable explanation for her to repeatedly make tearful apologies for taking Luke from his manor while he berates her, and then when he mitigates the situation for her to ask whether or not he wants to go home, and then when he says "What kind of question is that? Of fucking course I do!" for her to go "Then get a move-on, douchebag, you're slowing us down dicking around like this."

I need a shoulder Ari.

On the other hand, this other skit is adorable. ("Going Home" vs "This Place...") Luke is sulking over leaving the manor for the first time in ever, and it's all dark and there's monsters all over, what's up with that? And Tear is all "Well... It's night, so I can't do anything about the darkness, but..." And she is obviously just as unfamiliar with the outdoors as he is; she's also lived in a secluded, unnatural environment for most of her life, and she's a little stunned by how pretty all the nature is.

/psyches self up! yeah!
