I guess Richard took us outside the city to have us look at a thing of some sort. I didn't know why we were outside!

He wanted to show us a prettypretty view of the countryside and the mountains.

"Lhant's not the only place with a great view," he says happily. He loves this view. There's "no pain, no suffering. Just... beauty."

He's waxing philosophical about war and mankind. "I would give anything to build a world without conflict."

Richard, only JRPG villainy lies down this path. Stop it.

Richard reveals that his father was poisoned. I'M SHOCKED. Well, Asbel is.

He cheerily predicts that he'll be next when he's the king, of course. The other tinies pity him.

"If you ever need anything, Richard, you come to me!" Asbel says angrily.

Back to Barona!

rainfall just discovered how cooking works.

Whoops, stumbled onto Aston and Hubert. No one else hid when Asbel did, so they were spotted.

Aston: Asbel? I don't believe what I'm seeing...

rainfall: "Because I don't have pattern recognition!"

They were talking to a man, who takes off. Lord Aston is the most confused, but brushes it off, agreeing to forgive Asbel, because, idk, he had a near death experience and just wants to hug his family and make peace now.

Asbel also seems disoriented by this.

Hubert stays behind when Aston leaves, all curled in on himself.

Asbel ponders his uncharacteristic niceness, but concludes that it's AWESOME because he doesn't have to sneak around anymore!

Meanwhile, Cheria is concerned about Hubert being curled into the fetal position. Everyone blames themselves for Hubert's misery.

Asbel: And we had to pretend Richard was our brother and--

Hubert: What about me?

Everyone: ...

Hubert: ..........Am I still your brother?

Baaaaww Hubert.

Everyone makes plans to sneak into the castle to show Hubert the sights!

Hubert is still traumatized, but Asbel and Richard are too busy being excited to notice.

A CLASSY CAT WITH LAVISH EYES WANTS TO SPEAK TO ME AHHHHH

At night we head to the Royal Sanctuary. Hubert is still miserable but nobody notices. He is the most neglected.

They sit around and wait for Richard to come get them, but he's super late. What is this, Richard! What is this treachery!

EVERYONE WANTS TO GO HOME NOW, ASBEL. IT'S LATE.

Asbel is confuse and hurt, and decides to break into the Royal Sanctuary all on his own instead of waiting for Richard to let them in.

I love Asbel's :< face.

Relatedly: He has now vowed revenge against a door.

.........Hubert's life is so difficult. I'm sorry.

We fight a boss and Sophie is very, very creeped out and wants to leave immediately something horrible is here something horrible is coming let's go let's go.

When Presea says that you should worry.

But Asbel is like "Whatever we already destroyed the monster" and goes on ahead -- but finds Richard's body draped over a step. Now we all have to pause to stare in horror, and Asbel runs over to try and wake him.

Asbel wakes up back in his room in Lhant.

Whaaaaat?

He's been asleep for days. Where is everyone, he wants to know, reasonably.

Cheria and Hubert are going to be fine. Aston didn't know that Richard was involved, so Asbel assumes he escaped and made it back to the castle okay.

Sophie is -- dead. Whoops.

Dad says, "You see, Asbel? This is a direct result of your reckless actions."

Horror, horror, horror.

Go see Cheria, she was worried. And Hubert's been adopted by the Oswell family, so you won't have to worry about him ever again. Hooray.

Asbel is done, and he disinherits himself. He's going to train at the Knight Academy and become strong enough to protect everyone he cares about. Suck it, asshole dad!

Poor Lord Aston, sob.

Cheria was outside, but only heard shouting. Asbel tells her he's leaving forever, and Cheria is super upset, begging him to stay. She'll take Hubert and Sophie's places--

He shouts at her until she breaks down crying, and then he apologizes. He very reluctantly lies to her and tells her that he'll stay.

Asbel is building up a healthy sheen of self-loathing here.

And then, seven years later...

Grown-up Asbel is super polite and formal and respectful and stern. Sigh.

Malik is coaching him on a solo mission. A few days ago the knights learned that the 50ish residents of Orlen had vanished without a trace. We're going to find out wtf.

Yep, I hate the disco suit.

rainfall has discovered that the autobattle is highly effective.

Probably more effective than she is, since she managed to lose 50% of Asbel's health in every battle.

... In my opinion, there is more of a learning curve for this Tales of, ngl. /trying to get used to effectively using spellcasters
