In comes 2013

Just a few minutes away from the start of the new year in my timezone. So here's some thoughts.

This was a big year for me -- I moved across the country and I made a new life in a new city and I finally got a job in my field, after years of trying and failing.

Things I want to do in 2013:

1) Be better about my inbox. Sometimes I let things stay in there for weeks, and then I feel guilty, so I let them stay in there for months. No more. Respond promptly.

2) Be better about my finances. I want to keep to the budget I drew up, whether that means carrying money in envelopes and not using my charge cards, or just keeping track on a notebook and trying to use willpower. I'm losing money at this job, but I need it for experience to get to a better job, so I need to do well.

3) Be better about my health. I want to lose weight for my sister's wedding in April. I want to exercise three times a week, even if just for half an hour on the elliptical. I want to not feel so guilty about a day's ice cream or Chinese food that I stop counting for a month. I want to do weekly posts, that I will update daily, with my food intake. Expect that to start tomorrow.

4) Be better about my work. I want references, and I want to keep up the references I have. I want to not be seen as "the girl who can't be trusted behind a desk because she'll goof off" or "the girl who doesn't do anything but sit behind the desk unless you make her". I want to be prepared with a new job lined up when summer break begins and I'm out of work.

And things I want to do for me, as a person... Write more. Play more. Internet surf less. Learn Spanish.

And stop thinking of life as a zero-sum game, where if other people are succeeding, I feel like that reflects badly on my failures, and so I give up, or try to shoot them down.

Dreaming big.

Happy New Year to all of you. I'm hoping that for everyone who reads this -- people I care for, and new subscribers, and total strangers -- I hope 2013 is a year where we all become better human beings, or at least evolve into higher lifeforms in brain containers where all strife seems a distant archive of our historical collective mind. ♥

I vote for "brain container", personally.

Happy 2013, Kay. Again. ♥

Exercise with me, Kaaaay. I need to start exercising three days a week too.

I think all of these are excellent goals, though, and I hope you achieve all of them! Especially Spanish. You had best serenade me with a Spanish love song when you conquer Spanish mountain. Just kidding.

"Donde esta la biblioteca?" is pretty hot, not gonna lie.

And I do not have any particular days in mind yet! But I'm pretty flexible. How are you thinking of doing it?

That sounds like an excellent plan! And I think I thought of doing something similar, but never actually carried it out. (I think I currently exercise whenever I remember to....)

BUT OKAY. This will be a thing now. And I will document my progress each week, whether I actually manage to exercise three times or not.

........Noooo, I have the perfect gym icon for this but no space. Have it here instead:
