Jakob is Manservant #2 from earlier; he came in during the last battle and is sticking with his mistress.

Corrin starts to ask him for help, and he eloquently proclaims at great length how he would to anything for her, including slay dragons, charge into an enemy army, or "cook, clean, sew, smith, demolish, or bricklay anything you might require."

When she finally gets him to shut up, she says she just wants him to let her do stuff on her own -- she wants to be independent.

JAKOB: Independent?
JAKOB: ...
JAKOB: ...
JAKOB: ...Out of the question.

Corrin reminds him that she's supposed to be the boss in this relationship, and he informs her that she doesn't get to deny him his entire purpose in life. Back when he couldn't do anything right, she was the only one who was kind to him, so with all due respect, I'll do anything for you whether you like it or not, and screw your independence, milady.

CORRIN: Let's compromise.
CORRIN: Teach me how to make a pot of tea.

Cute.

JAKOB: Tea? Why?
CORRIN: I want to learn to help everyone, including you, Jakob.
CORRIN: I want to be able to make tea for the person who takes such good care of me.

Jakob is moved, because that was adorable, and tells her that he will permit this "act of wanton domesticity", but tea is dangerous, so she's only allowed to do it while he's around. He privately worries that she truly could make a pot of tea dangerous.

Corrin vows grimly to herself that this time she will make the perfect cup of tea for Jakob.

CORRIN: Don't look so worried -- I can make a pot of tea in my sleep!
JAKOB: So you have said, but... Forgive me for observing that you have not once managed it since our lessons began.
CORRIN: That'll be enough truth out of you, mister.

They continue being adorable as Jakob begs her to just let him make the tea and she digs her heels in and stubbornly insists that she will do it. When she finishes, he secretly slips in sugar so it isn't desperately bitter, and she's so delighted to have succeeded that she runs out to share it with everyone else.

What if he's unleashed a monster??

Jakob breezily initiates conversation with Rinkah, who is supremely uninterested and wants to be left alone. He is confident in himself and unruffled by her attempts to rebuff him.

RINKAH: You talk awfully big for a lapdog.
JAKOB: ...Did you just call me a lapdog?

Then he smilingly departs, and Rinkah feels uneasy -- like she got rid of him too easily...

2/5, not great shipping potential but interesting!
I didn't ask myself until now, but my scale appears to be for shippiness, not quality, of a support scene.

Jakob and Rinkah are uncomfortably irritable with one another, like putting two angry, territorial cats in a single cramped carrier. I did not enjoy it, and I love Jakob's bitchiness generally.

He finds Azura singing her favorite song again, and she says her mother taught it to her. Which mother? Wait, who the hell had all those Nohr kids anyway? They talk about good memories with her mother, and then Jakob says he doesn't remember his. But no big deal! "The world is full of orphans."

Still, it would've been nice to learn a few songs...

Then he takes off abruptly and Azura feels guilty for bringing up what might be an awkward topic for him.

Hana cheerfully asks Jakob to join her in training, and he's like, you have so much time to spare, but I don't have time to train endlessly. This agitates her a bit because hey it's not like I don't have things to do and he's like, I don't care what you do!

HANA: You know, Jakob, I'm not sure anyone has ever mentioned this to you...
HANA: But you're pretty rude.
JAKOB: I have heard that. It usually comes from people not worth my time.

lol Jakob why so catty to cute girls, don't you know I'm trying to get you married

Anyway Hana is about to storm off because she has to train so she can better protect Sakura and he's like, oh, you're... actually doing this for someone else? He finds that more interesting! Point of commonality established??

3/5, because Jakob actually considered being less of a dick for a moment, and I was fully expecting that interaction to end with rage on her part and pure dismissal on his

I'll just throw this down here, why not

Silas greets Jakob and is immediately outed as someone out trying to commit a good deed for someone else. "It's clear on your face. You have the look of a man acting selflessly."

lol I can hear the derision in his voice

"You've never met a sob story you won't hear in full. The more you listen, the more spellbound you become... until you're more weighted down by the problem than its actual sufferer."

Hard-hitting character analysis from Jakob! Rough. He calls Silas a hero and offers his condolences lolol

5/5, because I feel like Jakob ruthlessly grinding away Silas's compassion and good humor deserves a perfect score

Jakob I swear to god

Mozu is crying, and when Jakob asks if she's okay, she talks about how she had a dream about her village and all her friends and family, and now she feels like she's lost them all over again. He is slightly at a loss, but tells her to cry all she likes, and one day she'll be out of tears, and then she can be strong!

2/5, Jakob wasn't an awful human being

Setsuna is down a hole. Jakob finds this amusing. He uses his snarky words and her small brain to convince her to stay in the hole because it's fun! And then, when she's starving to death, she can call for help, and someone not Jakob will come and rescue her. After he's gone, she remembers that she isn't having fun.

When Jakob is rude to someone, he is really rude. But when he is nice to someone, he is ridiculous. He greets Sakura with some concern because she is looking "less radiant than usual". She was out caring for the wounded and he's concerned that she might be overdoing it. He snaps at her, she snaps at him, and they are both embarrassed by their respective displays of agitation and go their separate ways.

Oh god, Jakob, are you going to be civil. He seems to be! Maybe you have to be royalty to get Jakob's polite side. Anyway, he watches her train for a bit and admires, then offers to make her tea. He finds it interesting that she's so dedicated to combat and rides out on the front line, even though she's a princess.

HINOKA: I've spent many, many hours of my life training to be the best warrior possible.
HINOKA: It'd be a shame if I wasted all that effort by hiding in the rear of the army.

She says she learned princess stuff too, but most of that stuff is long forgotten. She regrets nothing! Even though Corrin is back now, there's still a lot of work left! Jakob dots. Because of the Corrin reference?

JAKOB: That's not a fortune. That's just slander and nonsense.

omfg someone trolled Jakob. Jakob is put off because what the hell, Orochi, he wasn't even being horrible to you yet as far as I know!

4/5 promising beginning

Takumi wants a favor, and because he is royalty, Jakob will entertain his presence. You see, Takumi wants help with some training. Some....... special training. Secret special training. And Jakob seems like he can keep a secret.

JAKOB: It seems you have a misconception about me.
JAKOB: You should know I am very, very bad at keeping secrets. Even very small ones.
JAKOB: Granted, I will happily keep all of Lady Corrin's secrets until I die...
JAKOB: But that courtesy is not extended to anyone else.

That sentiment accurately sums up Jakob's entire life. But, hey, he's super honest about it, even to people he's being nice to! This is Jakob being nice, man.

Jakob also pretends to be just a simple butler with no special skill at combat, and Takumi is like, you know I've seen you fight, right? to which Jakob responds with, uh, for Lady Corrin, remember? Fair enough. Takumi is annoyed by what seems like an extremely dedicated effort to being useless, because that is what it is.
