Sigh
First day of work today.
Yep, consumers are still picky and impatient.
Yep, standing up for hours on end still sucks.
Yep, still hate those goddamn rubber gloves.
Yep... can't stand handling liverwurst/headcheese/ew.
Yep, I even get to confront my fear of cash registers. (Check back Saturday to see if I'm still employed!)
My uniform is a tuxedo shirt (!!!), bowtie (!!!), apron and cap. ...WHAT?
The neck on the tuxedo shirt is so stiff it puts creases into my neck instead of the other way around.
Tangentially, I'm still skeptical of David Eddings' ability to write a female character I don't find overperfect.

Re: tangent - the only one I don't find overperfect is Ce'Nedra (who I just find so annoying that I want to murder). He does have that idealization-of-women thing going on. It's like they have like, one flaw (Polgara's temper, Ce'Nedra's annoying behaviour in general) and that's about it. Women lightly flawed. (with soy sauce!)
zomg Literary Tangent Ahoy
And I don't mind, really. He's not too annoying with it. In the Elenium series I thought he did this especially well; Ehlana is probably my favorite female he ever wrote (although I remember liking Velvet/Melidere -- they were essentially the same character -- and that blind seer from the Mallorean a lot, except for the heartbeat when she turned into a Typical Eddings Woman in smug "I have a man now") even though Sephrenia was a Typical Eddings Woman. I remember in the Tamuli when she turned into a RAGING RACIST and for once it didn't feel like a minor sin tossed in there that could be used to play for sympathy.
(IE, half the time when Polgara had arguments with Garion, it would wind up with him finding out that she was crying or something, him feeling bad, going over, and apologizing. Even though it was HER overprotectiveness and HER temper, HE was the one who made the apology. Of course, that's also the sort of character Garion was...)
This new book I got, so far the only real characters are two females, both of whom are Extremely Perfect to date. I hope the narrative balances when men start playing more of a role, it's rather annoying. XD

Which one did you get? I think there's a few of his I have to catch up on, 'The Redemption of Aldus' and there was another one I think ...
